Balcony cabins are popular on cruises. But not all of them are the same. There are different types of balcony staterooms on cruise ships that you should know about.
Standard Balcony Cabin
The standard balcony cabin is the most popular type of balcony stateroom on cruises. You will get to enjoy a private balcony with seating and ocean views. Perfect for relaxing with a book and a cup of coffee.
Interior Balcony Cabin
Interior Balcony cabins are staterooms with a private balcony. Unlike standard balcony cabins that face the ocean, these cabins are inside-facing, offering less privacy. For example, Royal Caribbean ships’ interior balcony cabins face the boardwalk.
Aft-Facing Balcony Cabins
Aft-facing balcony cabins are located at the back of the ship. These cabins are premium staterooms with extra large balconies. The ocean views from aft-facing balconies are breathtaking.
Suites
Suite cabins on cruise ships are luxurious, with very spacious balconies. These balconies typically have loungers, and some have dining furniture and even a private hot tub. Cruise passengers staying in suites enjoy VIP perks like access to exclusive suite restaurants and lounges, a private butler, and priority boarding/disembarkation.
Hump Balcony Cabins
Hump balcony cabins are unique because it is located in the section of the cruise ship that bulges out. As a result, hump balconies are larger than your standard balcony. But what’s great about it is that most cruise lines will charge you the regular balcony rate even if you get a larger balcony. Hump balcony cabins are very desirable and typically get booked up early.
Spa Balcony Cabins
Spa balcony cabins are geared toward cruise passengers who want a spa experience. These cabins typically have upgraded spa toiletries, enhanced air filtration systems, and relaxing zen decor. In terms of size, they are comparable to standard balcony cabins. One advantage of these spa balcony cabins is that they are located near the cruise ship’s spa. They also come with spa perks such as access to the spa thermal suite, discounts on spa services, and, on some cruise lines, exclusive access to the cruise spa restaurant.
Mini-Suite Balcony Cabins
Mini-suite balcony cabins are a step up from standard balcony cabins. They are usually slightly bigger, with a larger sitting area and a larger balcony. However, don’t expect to be blown away by the size difference—it’s not that significant compared to the standard balcony cabin.
Obstructed View Balcony
Obstructed-view balcony cabins are usually located on the lower deck and have an obstructed view. It is typically partially blocked by a lifeboat.
Accessible Balcony Cabins
Accessible balcony cabins are designed for guests who need accommodations. They’re always larger than standard cabins with wider doors, bathroom grab bars, and a large accessible shower. The balconies in these accessible cabins are also typically larger.
