As the weather starts to get colder in the Northeast, chances are you are starting to think of your next vacation. Preferably in a warm location! We asked local Greenwich mom and top luxury travel advisor, Jolie Goldring to give us some of her favorite luxury family getaways. Here are her Top 5 Family Vacations to beat the winter blues.
Scottsdale, Arizona- The Phoenician
I recently traveled with my two kids to Scottsdale, AZ. This sophisticated desert town is not lacking for much! Amazing restaurants, great shopping, an Old Town (think traditional Western village with authentic shops, galleries and dining) and that’s before you’ve visited any of the sites the greater Phoenix area is known for! We stayed at the newly renovated Phoenician where there is legitimately something for everyone. The rooms were sublime and spacious offering breathtaking views of Camelback Mountain. The pool facility (complete with splash pads and slides!) is enjoyable for all ages and they have brand new Fitness and Spa facilities for those moments you can get away. The destination is a winner because there is so much to do!
Jolie’s Insider Tip: Book a same day charter trip to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon and visit the famed Skywalk attraction offering a glass bottomed bridge 4000 ft. above the canyon.
Sea Island, Georgia- Sea Island
Low country inlets and greenery make for a very scenic arrival to this storied and historical beachfront compound. Having celebrated 90 years, the resort underwent a massive renovation and is now a Forbes Five Star property home to The Cloister, The Beach Club and the Lodge. The Beach Club is the resort’s newest addition where I put all my clients with young children as it provides direct access to their well thought-out pool complex complete with splash pads and slides, the beach, a delightful coffee bar and candy shop, the snack bar your kids will beg you to eat at and one of the most amazing kids clubs I’ve ever seen complete with an indoor movie theatre! The resort is a world-class golf destination offering three 18-hole courses. Full service and full of charm, Sea Island is best between mid-March to November depending on what type of holiday you need. Nonstop flights from the NY area to Jacksonville, Florida or Savannah, Georgia.
Jolie’s Insider Tip: Don’t miss cocktails at the Lodge with the bag pipe playing at sunset OR a dinner picnic at their own private outdoor event space- Rainbow Island.
Turks and Caicos- The Grace Bay Club
The beaches of the Turks & Caicos island will take your breath away and you won’t mind your kids asking you to help build sand castles in the silky sand! I have been going to the Turk & Caicos Islands for many years. One of my all-time favorite hotels for family vacations is the Grace Bay Club. The owners of the resort have continued to reimagine and re-concept what it means to take a luxury Family Vacation. The hotel sprawls out on Grace Bay beach and offers multiple options for families. Their newly renovated Villa section is a hit with 1, 2 and 3 bedroom residence style suites. Their Estates at Grace Bay, an elevated and intimate section of the hotel, also offers 2, 3 and 4 bedroom suites in an exclusive section of the hotel complete with it’s own pool and dining outlet just for Estate guests. Amazing water sports and children programming round out this Beach Bum favorite!
Jolie’s Insider Tip: Book a boat charter through Island Vibes for snorkeling and to catch fresh conch which they prepare & serve for lunch!
Cancun, Mexico- Nizuc Resort
Polished luxury only 15 minutes from Cancun’s airport, the Nizuc has been a favorite for its sleek Asian inspired design and diverse on-property restaurants. This 5 star hotel is a welcome addition to Cancun’s otherwise large and sometimes touristy resorts. Set on the Caribbean side of Mexico, the hotel offers a knock out family pool, a kids club, a manageable beach and hospitable service. Multiple nonstop flights make this destination a no brainer for families.
Jolie’s Insider Tip: Book through Jolie for complimentary airport transfer and other goodies like free daily breakfast and resort credits.
Orlando, Florida- The Four Seasons Resort Orlando
Before you roll your eyes about visiting the theme park capital, hear me out!! The brilliance of the Four Seasons Orlando lies in their over the top pool complex. Your kids will forget about riding Buzz Lightyear and will instead want to stay at the hotel and ride the lazy river or go down the numerous water slides! The pool facility complete with teepees, splash zone, and multiple pools will tucker your little ones out. The rooms are serene and stunning with not a hint of Mickey (except for the special amenities I can arrange for your children). After a busy day in the parks come back to this resort and eat amazing food and watch the fireworks from the rooftop restaurant and avoid the crowds!
Jolie’s Insider Tip: Contact Jolie for private guide services that are a fraction of the price of hiring the Disney Guides.
