One of my favorite Fall activities is undoubtedly going apple picking. Apple picking is a family activity that is active and gets the kids off their iPads and video games.
Fortunately, there are many apple picking farms in and near Fairfield County. If you live in Fairfield County, below are some of the best apple picking that is within a short driving distance from you.
Some of these apple picking farms are located less than 30 minutes away while some are day trip destinations from Fairfield County.
Closest Apple Picking in Fairfield County
If you are looking for the closest apple picking in lower Fairfield County, Silverman’s Farm is probably the closest apple orchard. Silverman’s Farm is located in the town of Easton, CT.
The drive from Westport to Silverman’s farm is only 17 minutes while the drive from Greenwich to Silverman’s Farm is a manageable 39 minutes.
Silverman’s Farm
Silverman’s Farm is an easy drive for Apple Picking from most lower Fairfield County towns. Silverman’s Farm is open every day for apple picking from 9am to 5:30pm.
You can pick from over 20 apple varieties at Silverman’s farm. The apple varieties available for picking will be based on when the apple is ready for harvest.
Silverman’s Farm apple picking harvest schedule runs from August to November.
You should check their website or call ahead before going to find out which apple variety is available for apple picking.
Besides apple picking, there is also a petting zoo for you to visit at Silverman’s Farm. There are a variety of animals at Silverman’s farm from barnyard animals to more exotic animals like emus, alpacas and long-horn cattle.
Note that there is an admission fee to visit the Animal Farm at Silverman’s. After apple picking, stop by the country market to pick up apple cider donuts and pies.

How Far is Silverman’s Farm from New Canaan?
Silverman’s Farm from New Canaan is only a 25-minute drive.
If you live in Southern Fairfield County, Silverman’s Farm is the closest apple orchard to go to for apple picking.
Depending on where you live in Fairfield County, your drive will range from 17 minutes to 40 minutes.
For example, the drive from Stamford to Silverman’s Farm is 34 minutes while the drive from Darien to Silverman’s Farm is also around 25 minutes.
It’s an easy drive from Fairfield County towns.
Apple Picking in Connecticut-Fairfield County
Fairfield County is home to many apple orchards. Depending on where you live in Fairfield County, apple picking is within a short drive away.
Below are places to go for apple picking in Fairfield County (Connecticut).
Blue Jay Orchards
Unfortunately, due to Spring Frosts and Freeze, Blue Jay Orchards will not be offering apple picking this Fall 2023 season.
Blue Jay Orchards is an apple orchard located in Bethel, CT. It is an easy drive for Fairfield County residents looking to go apple picking.
Blue Jay Orchards is open for apple picking Tuesday to Friday from 11am-4:30pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-4:30pm.
There is also a pumpkin patch at Blue Jay Orchards which is open for pumpkin picking every day from 11am-5pm.
On your way out, stop by the bakery for fresh pies and their famous apple cider donuts. Blue Jay Orchards is located at 125 Plumtrees Road, Bethel, CT.
How Far is Blue Jay Orchards to Greenwich?
Blue Jay Orchards is a 58 minute drive from Greenwich. Blue Jay Orchards is an apple orchard in Fairfield County.
The drive is less than an hour from most Southern Fairfield County towns. The drive from Westport to Blue Jay Orchards is only 37 minutes.
While the drive from Darien and New Canaan to Blue Jay Orchards are a little longer at around 45 minute drive.
Beardsley’s Cider Mill
Beardsley’s Cider Mill is another apple orchard in Fairfield County.
Compared to the other farms on this list, Beardsley’s Cider Mill is a smaller apple orchard.
Beardsley’s Cider Mill is open for apple picking on the weekends from 10am to 5pm.
Don’t expect kid’s activities, hayrides and corn mazes, Beardsley’s Cider Mill is small with only an apple orchard and a modest farm store.
When you go there, do stop by the farm store for apple cider donuts and cider.

The drive from Westport to Beardsley’s Cider Mill is only 33 minutes long.

The drive from Greenwich to Beardsley Cider Mill is 52 minutes while from New Canaan and Darien, Beardsley Cider Mill is around a 40 minute drive.

Bishop’s Orchard is one of the bigger orchards with many Fall activities on-site- get lost in the corn maze or relax on the outdoor patio with a cone from the Ice Cream stand.
Before you leave, don’t forget to pick up their famous pies and baked goods from the Farm Market.
Aside from apple picking, Bishop’s Orchard is also a winery. You can stop in for tastings of their award-winning fruit wines and hard ciders.
Bishop’s Orchards is at 1355 Boston Post Road, Guilford, CT.
How Far is Bishop’s Orchards to Westport?
Bishop’s Orchard is 45 minutes away from Westport. Bishop’s Orchard is located in the town of Guilford in New Haven County.
The drive from Greenwich to Bishop’s Orchard is an hour.
From New Canaan, Bishop’s Orchard is 57 minutes away and from Darien it is a 49 minute drive to Bishop’s Orchard.
Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard
Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard is a farm in New York that is within less than an hour’s drive from most Fairfield County towns.
It is located in Northern Westchester County and opens for apple picking on the weekends this September to October.
There is also a pumpkin patch so you can also pick your own pumpkin.
There are food and drinks on-site. After apple picking, you can stop in at one of the bars and enjoy a glass of hard cider or BBQ lunch while listening to live music.
Note that before you go, you need to make online reservations for apple picking.
Please note apple picking bags are not included in the General Admission ticket price and must be purchased while at the Farm.
Unlike the other Connecticut farms on this list, there is an admission fee to go apple picking at Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard.
Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard is located at 130 Hardscrabble Road, North Salem, NY.
How Far is Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard to Fairfield County?
Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard is an apple orchard in New York’s Westchester County and within less than an hour’s drive from most Southern Fairfield County towns.
The drive from Stamford to Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard is 42 minutes while the drive from Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard to Greenwich is only 35 minutes.
New Canaan to Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard is also 35 minutes.
Westport and Darien are a little further, the drive from Harvest Moon Farm and Orchard to Westport and Darien is 46 and 48 minutes long.
Stuart’s Fruit Farm
Stuart’s Fruit Farm is a New York farm that is within less than an hour’s drive from Fairfield County towns.
It is located in Northern Westchester County and is open for apple picking this September 6th and runs daily from 10:00am – 5:00pm through November.
There are a variety of over 20 apples at the farm.
You should call ahead to check availability and the type of apples being harvested.
There is a farm stand at Stuart’s Fruit Farm for farm fresh fruits and vegetables.
The bakery is open for apple cider donuts and pies.

How Far is Stuart’s Fruit Farm to Greenwich?
Stuart’s Fruit Farm is a 42 minutes drive from Greenwich, CT. Stuart’s Fruit Farm is an apple orchard in New York’s Westchester County.
From most Southern Fairfield County towns, Stuart’s Fruit Farm is less than an hour drive.
The drive from New Canaan to Stuart’s Fruit Farm is only a 40-minute drive while Westport is a little further from Stuart’s Fruit Farm at 56-minute drive.

Outhouse Orchards
Outhouse Orchards is another apple farm located in New York that is within less than an hour’s drive from Fairfield County.
It is located in Northern Westchester County and is open daily for apple picking.
Come early or come late there will always be apples, pears and peaches to pick through the months of September and October.
There is also a pumpkin patch at Outhouse Orchards.
In order to minimize crowding on the weekends, Outhouse Orchards has implemented an online reservation system.
There is a reservation fee and if you do not have a reservation for weekend visits, you will not be admitted to the farm upon arrival.
After apple picking, head over to the corn maze for some fun (admissions fee).

How Far is Outhouse Orchards from New Canaan?
Outhouse Orchards is only a 35 minutes drive from New Canaan, CT. Outhouse Orchards is an apple orchard in New York’s Westchester County.
From most Fairfield County towns, the drive to Outhouse Orchard is less than an hour long.
From Greenwich, it is only a 36-minute drive to Outhouse Orchards while from Darien and Westport, the drive to Outhouse is a little longer at 47 and 49 minutes long.

These apple farms are a little further away than the other apple picking farms on this list, making it a day trip destination.
Lyman Orchards
If you are looking to spend the day at an apple farm, then Lyman Orchards is the place to go.
Although Lyman Orchards is located a little further than most apple farms on this list, it is worth the drive because there is a lot to do there.
Lyman Orchards is open daily for apple picking this Early August – Mid November from 8am to 4:30pm.
You may take a stroll in their corn maze which is shaped in Benjamin Franklin’s likeness!
There is an admission fee to enter the Lyman Orchards corn maze.
Lyman Orchards is also home to Lyman Golf (book your tee time in advance).
After a fun-filled day of apple picking, get your weekly food shopping done at the Apple Barrel Farm Market.
Don’t expect a small country store, the Apple Barrel Farm market rivals large grocery stores in the area.
Lyman Orchards is located at 105 South Street, Middlefield, CT.
How Far is Lyman Orchards from Greenwich?
Lyman Orchards is a good day trip destination from Greenwich.
It is approximately an hour and 15-minute drive from Greenwich to Lyman Orchards.
Lyman Orchards is an apple orchard in Middlefield, CT.
The drive from Westport to Lyman Orchards is around 57 minutes long. From New Canaan, Lyman Orchards is an hour and 6-minute drive.
Holmberg Orchards
Holmberg Orchards is a day trip destination for Fairfield County residents.
It is located close to Mystic, CT so you can combine your apple picking excursion with a stop at Mystic.
Holmberg Orchards is open daily for apple picking this September 2 to October 25, 2023 from 9am to 6pm (last entry is 5:30 pm).
On the weekends, you can go on free hayrides and the corn maze is open.
Cinnamon sugar donuts and cider slushies are available for sale on the weekends.
Aside from apples, Holmberg Orchards is home to lavender fields.
There is also a winery at Holmberg Orchards. The Wine and Cider Barn is open 12-5 Saturdays and Sundays.
After apple picking, relax and enjoy a flight of cider or wine. Holmberg Orchards is located at 1990 CT-12, Gales Ferry, CT.
How Far is Greenwich to Holmberg Orchards?
Holmberg Orchards is an easy day trip from Greenwich.
The drive from Holmberg Orchards to Greenwich is a 1 hour and 45 minutes long.
Holmberg Orchards is an apple orchard in Gales Ferry, CT. From Darien, Holmberg Orchards is an hour and 30 minute drive.
While from New Canaan, Holmberg Orchards is a 1 hour and 37 minutes drive.

Here are important tips to help you make the most of apple picking.
Call Ahead Before Going Apple Picking
Apple picking is very weather dependent.
It’s not uncommon for apple picking farms to close for the day because of rain.
Make sure to call ahead before going to check to see if the farm is open for apple picking.
Plan Your Visit Based on the Apple Harvest Schedule
Most farms have 20 or more apple varieties.
The apple picking season generally starts in September and through October.
There is generally a harvest schedule to determine what type of apple is available for picking.
If you are looking for a certain type of apple, definitely plan your apple-picking visit around the Harvest schedule.
Call ahead to check before going because sometimes certain apples may run out for the season or the crop is yielding low.
Dress appropriately for apple picking
Since you will be spending time outdoors, dress in layers so you are comfortable when apple picking.
Also, make sure you wear appropriate footwear since apple picking is outdoors and it may get muddy.
Don’t forget the sunblock and hat!
Do stop by the Farm Market
After apple picking, don’t forget to make a stop at the farm market.
Most places sell freshly baked apple cider donuts, pies, and bread.
You can also get apple ciders, hard ciders, and even fruit wines.
