Chipotle Plans to Open 340-360 New Restaurants in the US and Canada in 2027

Every week, my teen son and his friends ask to eat at Chipotle after football practice. It’s their go-to, and judging by the long lines at our local restaurant, they’re hardly alone.

I often see moms with preschoolers picking up dinner and entire busloads of kids in team uniforms stopping in after a game. From hungry teens to families with little ones, Chipotle seems to have a place in everyone’s dinner rotation around here.

In our house, even a menu launch becomes an event. My son wants to go on the very first day a new limited-time item drops. Chipotle Honey Chicken is his favorite, and when Chili Lime Chips were introduced, he had to try those right away, too.

Chipotle is hot, at least in my corner of the suburbs, and I can see why the chain is continuing to expand.

On October 28, 2026, the company announced plans to open 340 to 360 company-owned restaurants across the U.S. and Canada in 2027. If you’ve been wishing for a location closer to home, that’s welcome news.

Chipotle’s Third-Quarter Results Show Continued Growth

Chipotle’s expansion plans follow a third quarter with higher sales and more restaurant openings. For the three months ended September 30, 2026, revenue rose 9.6% from a year earlier to $3.3 billion.

Sales at comparable restaurants increased 2.1%, reflecting a 0.8% increase in transactions and a 1.3% increase in average spending per transaction.

During the quarter, Chipotle opened 84 company-owned restaurants, including 53 with a Chipotlane, plus five international partner-operated locations. Digital orders accounted for 38.8% of food and beverage revenue.

Despite the sales growth, net income fell to $339.9 million from $382.1 million a year earlier. The results show that Chipotle continued to attract more transactions while its profitability faced pressure.

More Locations Could Mean Easier Pickup

One feature to watch for as new locations are announced is the Chipotlane, Chipotle’s pickup lane for digital orders.

Guests order ahead through the Chipotle app or website, select Chipotlane pickup and collect their food without leaving the car. For a quick lunch or dinner pickup between errands, that could make a new restaurant especially convenient.

Chipotle has made the format a major part of its expansion. In September 2026, the company announced its 1,500th Chipotlane in Bradenton, Florida, after adding 500 in less than two years.

A Recent Opening Shows What Expansion Can Look Like

The Bradenton restaurant, at 16680 SR 64 East, opened September 29, 2026. It features a Chipotlane, the company’s Habanero restaurant design and equipment intended to improve efficiency.

Florida has been a particularly active growth market: Chipotle said in September that it expected to expand its restaurant footprint in the state by approximately 17% during 2026.

Those are 2026 developments, rather than confirmed locations for the 2027 opening plan, but they offer a look at the chain’s recent expansion.

Chipotle Is Working Toward 7,000 Restaurants

The company’s longer-term goal is to reach 7,000 locations across the U.S. and Canada. Its planned 2027 openings would move it further toward that target.

Chipotle is also planning around 15 to 25 company-owned and partner-operated openings outside the U.S. and Canada in 2027. Those are separate from the 340–360 restaurants planned for the two North American markets.

Where Are the New Chipotle Restaurants Opening?

Chipotle’s announcement covers the U.S. and Canada, but it does not include a city-by-city list, addresses or individual opening dates for the 2027 restaurants.

For anyone hoping their town will get a location, that means there’s still a wait for local announcements. The 340–360 figure is the company’s projected new restaurant opening range, so the final number could change.
