A review of High Tea at Vanillamore in Montclair, NJ. It’s a culinary delight, sure to please any palate.
What to Get at Vanillamore
The high tea menu consists of several courses, with carefully crafted tea sandwiches, biscuits, chocolates, exotic teas and more. Note that the high tea selection certainly favors the sweet.
Best Sweet Bite
The cream puffs made in-house had the most delicate vanilla custard. The buttery pastry was flakey and perfect.
Ambiance at Vanillamore
The open-kitchen vibe provides for a fun culinary experience.
Great for Big Groups
I recommend Vanillamore for big groups. There was a birthday celebration next to us at a long table – not only are the acoustics pretty good (so you can hear what people are saying. Gosh, I sound old!) but the place is BYOB so you can keep the cost down when dining with a big group.
Best Bite
My favorite aspect of the meal was the chicken curry sandwich, which was served on a lightly toasted baguette. My only complaint was that there wasn’t more!
Could Do Without
I wasn’t a huge fan of the smoked salmon toast. I’m a huge lox fan, but smoked lox has a strong and potent flavor already, so pickling it wasn’t my cup of tea but I appreciate the creativity.
Amazing Service
The service was spectacular and the staff were incredibly friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there.
The overall high tea experience at Vanillamore was excellent and memorable for its unique flavors and creativity. According to chef and owner, Risa Magid Boyer, “Vanillamore was inspired by my love for vanilla and the way that it can be used to enhance other flavors in desserts, just as salt is used in savory food. The name itself is a play on words – Vanilla + amore – the love for vanilla, as well as Vanilla + more, because there is so much more that we offer than “just” vanilla. At Vanillamore, there’s no such thing as “plain vanilla”. We couldn’t agree more.
