One of the highlights of a cruise is undoubtedly the breakfast buffet. There’s nothing quite like starting your day with a lavish spread of seemingly endless choices of delicious, sweet and savory breakfast foods. It’s an amazing way to start your morning!
Eggs Benedict
While I usually avoid the Eggs Benedict at the cruise buffet—imagine that coagulated Hollandaise sauce!—some cruise lines, like Celebrity Cruises, have made-to-order Eggs Benedict stations. You can order the classic Ham Eggs Benedict or the Salmon version. Personally, I enjoy the Mexican Eggs Benedict, which puts a Huevos Rancheros twist on the classic! If you see an eggs benedict station, order from it—you won’t be eating the dreaded coagulated sauce!
Made to Order Omelets
The omelet station at the buffet is very popular, so expect to wait in line. You can customize your omelet with a selection of fillings, such as bacon, ham, spinach, mushrooms, peppers, onion, and cheese.
Crispy Bacon
When you’re at the cruise buffet, don’t just settle for bacon on the hot plate! Ask the buffet staff for crispy bacon. They will get it from the stash stored at the back. Remember, to get crispy bacon, you need to request it!
Waffles
Waffles are a beloved breakfast staple at the cruise buffet. Some cruise lines, like Princess Cruise, have made-to-order waffle stations. There’s also typically a self-serve toppings bar where you can pile on whipped cream, drizzle chocolate, or add maple syrup to your perfect waffle.
Croissants and Danishes
One of the highlights of a cruise buffet breakfast is the assortment of freshly baked croissants, muffins, and danishes. It’s nearly impossible to walk by without helping yourself to at least one baked goods.
Hash Browns
Hash browns are one of the best breakfast foods at the cruise buffet. They’re a classic breakfast side dish of shredded potatoes that are seasoned and then pan-fried until crispy outside and soft inside. They go perfectly with breakfast sausages and bacon.
Fresh Fruits
Fresh fruits are a staple at cruise buffets. Having fresh tropical fruit such as watermelon, cantaloupe melon, and pineapple is always a treat. Plus, you can always count on berries at the buffet—strawberries and blueberries are breakfast favorites.
Smoked Salmon
Smoked salmon is one of the best cruise buffet breakfast foods. Along with the smoked salmon, there is usually a condiments bar stocked with delicious capers, red onions, and fresh lemon.
Grilled Tomatoes
Grilled tomatoes are a popular breakfast side dish at the cruise buffet. They are a savory side dish of halved tomatoes lightly seasoned with salt, pepper, and herbs and grilled until they are tender and slightly charred on the surface.
