Founder of ManiGlovz and mother of three, Kim Motola shares her move to suburbs story. Kim took some time off from her busy schedule to talk to Suburbs 101. Here is a peek into
Tell me about your move to Purchase, NY?
We moved from Manhattan’s Tribeca in 2011 when my son was 2 and my daughter was 3.5. My husband wanted more space and we wanted a backyard for our kids to play in. We also did not want to deal with the insanity of the school application process in the city. However, it was not easy for me to make the move because I love the city. I have since grown to love our suburban community.
Why did you choose to move to Purchase, NY?
I love Purchase because it is beautiful. It is quiet and private yet so close to the city and very central to other local towns. It is 10 minutes to Rye, 10 minutes to Greenwich, 10 minutes to Armonk and 10 minutes to White Plains!
What are the top 3 things you like about Purchase, NY?
Very pretty. Centrally located. Wonderful people
What do you like to do with your kids in Purchase? Westchester?
We love going to the local parks in Westchester. We love Kensico Dam. My kids love the playground there, we love walking on top of the dam and there is always something happening there (Carnivals and Flea Markets). We also like to go to the park at Purchase Community House. And when it is too cold to play outside, I like to take them to KidsU in Port Chester and BounceU in Elmsford.
What are some things you don’t like about Purchase?
How would you describe Purchase residents?
I have met so many amazing people and families! Kind, caring and fun! Some of my best friends live in Purchase!
What has your experience been so far with schools in Purchase?
My kids went to Purchase Children’s Center. I think the teachers are amazing. The school has a lot to offer. I personally love the option for late dismissal.
Do you or your husband commute to the city? What has your experience been with the commute?
My husband works in White Plains so his commute is very easy. Although for the first 6 months when we moved here he did commute into New York City everyday and hated it! Luckily, his office is now in downtown White Plains.
What are your favorite places in Purchase?
I’d say my favorite place in Purchase is my house. My kids love staying at home. When the weather is nice, they love biking outside and playing in the yard. We invite friends over to play. It is so easy to spend all day at home.
