Do you have out-of-town guests? We asked Helen Phillips from Style Inherited to give us her Top 5 Restaurants to Take Out-of-towners in Fairfield and Westchester County.
Rosemary and Vine- Rye, NY
I’m starting off with a little bit of an unexpected twist here. I feel like it’s the norm to take visiting guests out to dinner somewhere. And sure, do that, but why not also do breakfast out one morning? Rosemary and Vine, a Mediterranean-styled vegetarian restaurant, is now open for breakfast on Friday and Saturday mornings. Right on Purchase Street in Rye, NY this place boasts an ideal location to bring friends and family because after you’re done with your meal, you can take a stroll down Rye’s main street and pop into all the shops.
Of course, if you’re looking for a spot to bring your vegetarian guests for dinner, then try this place too!
Terrain Garden Cafe- Westport, CT
This place is way cooler than your average Fairfield County and Westchester County eatery. Terrain’s Garden Cafe, located inside this really unique home/garden store (a sister store to Anthropologie), is open for brunch daily and dinner Wed-Sun. The bread “basket” that they bring you is reason enough to come here with your out-of-town guests. Trust me! I think there are only 5 or so locations across the country, and Westport is lucky enough to be one of them!
Again, this isn’t just going out to eat, this is an outing. After your meal (or before!) you can browse all the Joanna Gaines-eque décor and home goods and garden supplies. Right now it’s decorated beautifully for the holidays! I guess I would compare this to Fairfield County’s version of the Macy’s in NYC. You get your meal, your shopping, and your holiday decorations all in one. Pretty cool!
The Granola Bar- Various locations in Westchester County and Fairfield County
This is a great spot to take out-of-towners for lunch or if you just need to grab a quite bite. The Granola Bar has a healthy menu that appeals to basically any dietary restriction under the sun. They also have the best hot cocoa and brownies, which is usually why I’m stopping there!
Fortina- Various locations in Fairfield County and Westchester County
Ah, Fortina. Fortina has kind of flipped the restaurant world upside down, at least as far as Fairfield County and Westchester County are concerned. It’s not just a restaurant, it’s a lifestyle, a way of being, some might even say a cult (ha!). No, but really, this restaurant made Christian Petroni (the chef) famous. He’s been on Chopped, Chopped Champions and now is a regular judge on The Food Network. His creative, Italian menu boasts one-of-a-kind meatballs, wood-fired pizzas, and so many other incredible options. If you’re looking for a place with great night life atmosphere and don’t want to compromise on the food, bring your guests here!
La Zingara- Bethel, CT
For the best pasta dishes in all of Fairfield County and Westchester County combined you have to come here. Back when I lived in Redding, this was my family’s go-to restaurant for an incredible meal. La Zingara consistently brings its A game and I love how their menus change with the season. I unfortunately haven’t found an Italian restaurant outside of NYC to compare to La Zingara yet, but am still on the hunt. Until then, La Zingara will always be at the top of my list as one of the all-time best restaurants in Fairfield County, which is exactly why you shouldn’t hestistate to bring your guests here.
