Amy Guzzi's Life in Weston, CT

Fashion stylist, social media influencer, and mother of two young children, Amy Guzzi moved from New York City to Weston, Connecticut.

She takes time off her busy schedule to chat with Suburbs 101. Here is a peek into Amy’s life in Weston, CT.

Tell me about your Move from NYC to Weston, CT

We lived in New York City but we always knew we were going to move to Connecticut. I am originally from Connecticut and my husband is from Boston.

When I was pregnant with my daughter and my son was two, we started looking at houses in Connecticut. We looked at houses in New Canaan (CT), Westport (CT), and Weston (CT).

We were looking for houses with in-law suites because my parents help out a lot with the kids. After a few months of searching for homes in Connecticut, our house came on the market in Weston and we just fell in love with it.

How old are your kids? What do you like to do with them in Weston or in the area?

My son is 5.5 and my daughter just turned 3. We like to go to different parks and the beach.

We really enjoy Merwin Meadows Park in Wilton or the park at Christ & Holy Trinity Park in downtown Westport. In the summer, we love to go to Compo beach in Westport. It is the best beach for little kids.

What are your favorite restaurants in Weston and Westport area? Best Date Night Restaurants? Best Kid Friendly Restaurants?

For date night, we love Le Penguin and Jesup Hall in Westport, Tavern at Graybarns in Norwalk or Paci in Southport.

If we are going out with kids, we will go to the Lunch Box in Weston, Bar Taco in Westport or The Spotted Horse Tavern in Westport.

When you moved to Weston did you know anyone? Any tips/advice you can give to newcomers on how to meet people?

When I moved to Weston, I didn’t know a single person but I got involved in a lot of the classes with my son such as swim lessons at the YMCA (Westport) and Music Together (Westport). That is how I met other moms.

We would get together for playdates and it soon developed into good friendships. I feel really lucky because I have a great group of friends that are always there for me.

Can you describe your social life?

When my kids were younger, it was hard to be social with breastfeeding and getting up at night. My social life used to revolve around getting together with our kids.

Now that my kids are older, I have more of a social life. I can go out for lunch with friends when the kids are in school or leave the kids at home with a sitter and go out for dinner with friends.

How would you describe residents of Weston, CT?

Weston residents are warm and down to earth. Everyone is very supportive and willing to help. It takes a village when you have little kids and I always feel like people are always offering a hand.

What are some things you don’t like about Weston?

I wish we have sidewalks in Weston. I feel like we lack a little bit of community because we don’t have sidewalks.

Are you a member of a country club/ Yacht club?

We don’t belong to a club because neither of us plays golf. We did do the summer membership trial at Aspetuck Valley Country Club in Weston. It is a lovely club but we were only really using it for the pool.

It didn’t make sense for us to join a country club since we have a summer cottage in Maine and we go up there for the whole month of July. Maybe someday though.

What has your experience been so far with Weston schools?

My son just started Kindergarten at Weston and I can’t say enough about how wonderful the experience has been for us. He loves it, the class size is small and he is learning so much.

Before starting Kindergarten you meet with the guidance counselor to talk about your child. My son is a sensitive little boy and they were able to match him with the best teacher to meet his needs.

Do you or your spouse commute to New York City? What has your experience been with the commute?

My husband commutes into New York City from Weston and he doesn’t mind it at all. His office is right next to Grand Central.

He catches the train from Westport and it takes him about 1 hour and 20 minutes. He usually takes the early train so finding a parking spot has never been an issue.

He has a parking permit at the Westport train station (took us about 1.5 years to get off the parking permit waitlist). His company also has a satellite office in Westport, so one or two days a week he will work there.

Any tips/advice you can give to someone who is looking to move to the area?

Any big change like moving is hard in the beginning but give it time and join as many things as you can to meet new people.
