I was very excited for the opportunity to interview social media influencer, Simone of Simply by Simone. She is a social media phenom- living the dream life that many new bloggers hope to achieve. Simone gives us a peek into her life as a social media influencer and shares some of her secrets to success. Here is Simply by Simone, Social Media Influencer in Westchester, NY.
You were born and raised in Westchester, right?
Yes, my entire life. I was born in Yonkers, NY and when I was 6 years old, we moved to Eastchester, NY and have been there ever since.
You are a Fashion/lifestyle blogger. What made you decide to become a blogger?
Four years ago, when I was in-between jobs and back working full-time at Bloomingdales, I decided I needed to do something in addition to working. News outlets have just started talking about fashion blogging, so I thought why not me? I was taking a walk with one of my best friends one weekend when we came up with Simply by Simone. I wrote my first blog post that week!
What do you love most about being a blogger?
The connections I get to make. I always think if I wasn’t blogging I would have missed out on so many connections. Not only with other bloggers, PR agencies and brands, but the people I get to connect with all around the world. It’s amazing how the internet has enabled us to create these relationships!
Any tips for someone new to blogging?
Be on your A game from the beginning. Get a good camera and create some content before you even start your Instagram or blog. Find an edit or filter that you like for your photos. Have a focus. This way when you introduce yourself to the internet, you’ll already have done all the hard work.
Describe your typical day
I wake up at 5:15 am. Then I take Tom, my boyfriend,
Can you describe your social life?
Busy! During the week I always have events to go to and I also make time to have dinner with friends and PR reps. On the weekends, I spend time with my family, boyfriend and friends in Westchester.
How would you describe Eastchester residents?
I find everyone to be nice and friendly. There are also many people who just keep to themselves. Overall it’s pretty quiet here.
What are some things you don’t like about Eastchester?
The congestion when you have to drive on route 22 (White Plains Rd) from the north end of town to the south end! Haha! Lord and Taylor also makes tons of congestion!
What are your favorite restaurants in the area?
Buratta Wood Fired Pizza (Eastchester, NY)
808 Social (Scarsdale, NY)
Eastchester Fish Gourmet (Scarsdale, NY)
Polpettina (Eastchester, NY)
Where are your go-to places in the area?
I love walking on the Bronx River Trail from Eastchester to Tuckahoe.
Are you a member of a club?
I’m no longer a member, but when I was in high school I was a member of Lake Isle Country Club and really loved it!
What has your experience been so far with schools in your area?
I loved going to Eastchester High School, I liked knowing all my classmates and it was a relatively easy environment. I went to elementary school at Annunciation School in Crestwood, NY. The transition to public school was easy.
What has your experience been with taking the train to New York City?
Both my boyfriend and I take the train into the city. It’s not that bad. I drive him in the morning, he gets a ride home and picks me up at night. It takes me 32 minutes to get into Grand Central and another 30 minutes down to Meatpacking District.
Any tips/advice you can give to someone looking to move to Westchester?
My boyfriend and I are looking for a home in Westchester right now. We know that we don’t want our commute to be any longer than it is now, and have decided we wanted to stay near the Harlem line. So it really narrowed down our area. Take time to visit the towns so you have an idea of the proximity to grocery stores/salons/restaurants. Make sure you drive around the area so you know how busy the streets are.
